  • How long does it take for proscar to work

Proscar shrinks the prostate gland slowly. Therefore, you may need to take Proscar for 6 months or longer to see whether it helps you. Although reductions in the size of the prostate gland can occur in virtually all the patients who take finasteride, only 50% will experience improvement in the symptoms of BPH. If it does help your symptoms, you may need to take Proscar every day. The usual dose in men is one tablet taken once each day. It does not matter if you take Proscar before or after food. Continue taking Proscar for as long as your doctor prescribes. If you stop taking the medicine the prostate gland is likely to grow again.

  • How does proscar work

Proscar tablets contain the active ingredient finasteride, which is a type of medicine known as a 5-α reductase inhibitor. Finasteride works by preventing the action of a chemical in the body called 5-α reductase. 5-α reductase is an enzyme that converts the male hormone testosterone into a more active form called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). By blocking its action, finasteride prevents this activation of testosterone. Enlargement of the prostate gland, which often occurs in men with advancing age, is dependent upon testosterone being converted to DHT within the prostate gland. In the absence of DHT the prostate shrinks. By decreasing the amount of DHT, finasteride helps shrink the prostate.

  • How long does it take for avodart to work

Your prostate became large over a long period of time, reducing the size of your prostate and improving your symptoms will take time. While some men have fewer problems and symptoms after 3 months of treatment with Avodart, a treatment period of at least 6 months is usually necessary to see if Avodart will work for you. Studies have shown that treatment with Avodart for 2 years reduces the risk of complete blockage of urine flow and/or the need for surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia. There probably won't be much info on it and hairloss treatment as it will be buried in clinical trial data.

  • How does avodart work

Avodart belongs to a class of medications known as 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. It is used to relieve symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with enlarged prostates. BPH is a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that usually occurs in men after the age of 50. Avodart works to reduce the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that causes enlargement of the prostate gland. Avodart relieves symptoms of BPH by reducing the size of the prostate and improving the flow of urine. This medication improves symptoms associated with BPH, such as: decreased urine flow, difficulty urinating, getting up to urinate during the night, hesitation at the start of urination.

Proscar was cut into 4 pieces and 1.25 mg were taken daily for over 2 years. There was immediate cessation of loss and moderate amounts of regrowth. Return to baseline, and then drastic fall below baseline, was observed in the year subsequent to drug initiation. Of side effects can be noted a mild testicular ache, reduced ejaculate.

I've been using 1/4 tablets of generic Proscar for a month now. No gyno to speak of. Gyno issues with finasteride (the drug in Propecia/Proscar) is QUITE rare and if it flares up you just stop.

I have taken Avodart for BPH for about five or so years now. I have definitely experienced frontal hair growth and thickening as well. My last passport picture taken a few months ago shows me with thicker hair than the one taken over 10 years ago.

I have been taking Avodart for about two years now. It was prescribed because of an enlarged prostate which was affecting my ability to urinate. My stream is much improved.
